Attempting something different

For the past week, I've decided to try something different for my exercise schedule.  As I had started teaching again, I've had to wake up before dawn every morning and since school ends at different times, I was beginning to lose my routine of going to the gym.  So, starting last Wednesday, I decided to try jogging every night instead of going to the gym.  It's a little worrying for me coz I've been going to the gym almost everyday for the last 5 to 6 months.  Changing my exercise regime might just result in a drastic slowdown of my weight loss efforts.  Worse still, I hope it doesn't cause it to plateau out.  I'm gonna try it for about 2 weeks and see if I am able to continue with some weight loss.  I expect the rate to slow down a little, but I certainly hope the change is not too much.  I'm still continuing (and enjoying) my weekly tennis and I'm gonna try to include swimming at least twice a week and maybe another activity (like Taiko??).

My jogging has been quite encouraging.  I've alternated between completing 2.4km jogs and doing slower but longer endurance jogs.  I started off about 2 months ago with a 2.4km timing of around 22mins.  Tonight, I pushed myself and was pretty proud of achieving 19.5minutes!  Of course, that's way off from the 'official' passing timing.  But hey, shaving off 2.5minutes is a personal achievement!  In between nights of pushing myself to better my 2.4km timing, I try to do longer endurance jogs of between 30 and 40mins.  Hoping to work it up to 1hour.... :P

I do enjoy jogging more than running on the treadmill or using the elliptical which are generally quite boring.  I've been able to occupy myself on the elliptical somewhat by watching movies on my psp or playing simple games but time really crawls.  When I jog, the 20 to 40mins seem to pass by pretty quickly.  And to be honest, I do enjoy a good sweating.

I'm really apprehensive about this change of my exercise regime.  If things don't turn out good next week, I'll definitely return to the gym.  Let's see how it goes.
